Legendary commodity investor Jim Rogers has never been shy about vocalizing his opinions about the investing world. In particular, Rogers has an affinity for commodities like ags and precious metals. Gold has been one of the most talked about hard assets of the last two years, as the metal soared to all-time highs, only to watch its price take a tumble in the months that followed. All along the way, Rogers had been calling for a correction for gold, and it is a sentiment that he still holds today [for more gold news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter]. See the full story here →

Despite a few choppy trading sessions last week, the bulls remain in the driver’s seat as made evident by the stock market’s largely uninterrupted ascent. Although price action continues to bolster major equity indexes higher, the economic data front is still mixed; retail sales offered some encouragement last week after beating expectations, while consumer sentiment and industrial production data came in worse-than-expected [for more commodity futures news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter].

Dear CKX Lands’ Inc. Management and board of directors:

Over the years, you have done an admirable job as stewards of the CKX Lands Inc. (CKX) properties. I am impressed by the high level of stock ownership by the board of directors and by the meager salaries both executives and directors draw from the company. I was also impressed by the recent moves taken to improve corporate governance practices by removing potential conflicts of interest. All things considered, you have done a fine job, an admirable job, of leading CKX Lands, Inc [for more commodity news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter]. See the full story here →
While soybeans are originally from Southeast Asia, with Chinese farmers among the first to domesticate the crop, the U.S. currently both produces and exports more than any country in the world. But holding the majority of the world’s supply of this legume has made the U.S. extremely vulnerable to a new trend that looks to have a big impact on the commodity’s price [for more commodity news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter]. See the full story here →

Equity markets are slowly and surely finding their footing following the pullback seen in early June after Fed stimulus fears resurfaced. The continuation of upbeat economic data releases has made it hard to stay on the sidelines, although an improving outlook for the U.S. recovery is making some investors worried that the Fed’s “exit plans” could rattle confidence and spark a massive amount of profit-taking [for more commodity futures news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter].

With more upside on the horizon, at least until the next Fed policy meeting in June, bargain shoppers remain on the prowl for attractive opportunities. As such, below we take a look at two big commodity stocks that are trending higher, highlighting two “buy on the dip” opportunities.

Natural gas has been one of the most watched commodities of the past five years. After bottoming out following the 2008 recession, the fossil fuel has managed to claw back some of the ground it gave up. Many were hoping that this summer would solidify that run higher, but those who did had their expectations tempered, as the commodity has been among the worst performing over the last two weeks.

As the years go on, more and more people are looking at alternative energy to be the wave of the future. While fossil fuels have long dominated the global energy space, the past few decades have seen major strides to bring other methods to the forefront. Solar energy has been among the most popular, as the industry has harnessed the sun’s power, utilizing photovoltaic modules that seem to get more efficient by the year. And now, the Japanese government is encouraging domestic businesses to ramp up their use of this renewable resource [for more solar news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter]. See the full story here →

Dr. Doom is back in the news, this time predicting the end of the gold bubble. The chairman of Roubini Global Economics and a professor at NYU Stern School of Business, Roubini has always had strong opinions on gold and the precious metals space ,and his newest sentiment for the metal is likely to cause many to reconsider their holdings [for more precious metal news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter].

Major U.S. equity benchmarks are looking to resume their ascent into uncharted territory following last week’s stretch of choppy trading. Although optimism is high on Wall Street, investors are having to digest mixed data that could encourage more profit taking over the coming sessions; ISM data from May hints of a contraction in the manufacturing sector while better-than-expected motor vehicle sales are resonating well among auto stocks and industrial metals [for more commodity futures news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter].

As such, below we take a look at three big commodity stocks that are trending higher, but have slipped in the last few trading sessions, thereby offering an attractive opportunity to “buy on the dip.”

But as big oil stepped in, the past few decades have seen dependence on coal cool off. As fracking continues to pick up steam and alternative energy sources enjoy growth, many are left wondering what the future holds for coal [for more coal news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter]. See the full story here →
It wasn’t long ago that analysts were calling for silver and gold to hit unprecedented highs (gold, in fact, did hit historic highs in 2011) only to watch their prices take a major hit in the subsequent months. See the full story here →

Since the industrial revolution, growing economies around the world have turned to fossil fuels for a relatively cheap power source. This dependence on non-renewable resources has only increased in the past few decades, but so have the environmental arguments against them. One of the biggest arguments against burning fossil fuels is the harmful emissions that come as a side effect. But while many lump all fossil fuels together as being “dirty” energy sources, one stands out from the rest: natural gas [for more energy news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter].

Buffett’s latest bet was placed on a Houston-based oil and gas equipment and services company: National Oilwell Varco, Inc.

Investors ran for cover last week after the bulls’ confidence was rattled by the Fed, which hinted at scaling back on their bond-repurchases earlier than many were anticipating. Profit-taking pressures hit equity markets overseas and at home as fading stimulus hopes prompted a sell-off ahead of the prolonged holiday weekend for Wall Street; nonetheless, investors appear to be back on the scene in a bargain buying mood as major U.S. indexes have managed to snap back and appear to be well on their way to resuming the uptrend at hand [for more commodity futures news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter].

Gold prices and producers of the yellow metal remain severely depressed as momentum has failed to return to the precious metals market following the steep sell-off seen earlier in April. Contrarian investors should add Randgold Resources (GOLD) to their watchlist because this mining behemoth is resting on major historical support, thereby offering an attractive entry point for those eager to establish exposure to the gold miners space while prices are still beat down.

Backwardation is the process where near-month futures are more expensive than those expiring later in time, which creates a downward sloping curve for prices over time. It is a natural occurrence in the commodity world, but it’s still a phenomenon that traders need to be aware of. Often, a falling futures curve could mean that the market expects the commodity to take a drop in value or that it is currently overpriced [for more commodity futures news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter]. See the full story here →

One of the most talked-about global trends in recent years has been the rapid growth in population. As emerging markets around the world enter periods of robust growth, their populations have also been on the rise. Though a growing worldwide population will certainly cause a number of issues, it will also present commodity investors with a fair amount of opportunities, as some hard assets represent a great way to profit from the current trend [for more commodity news and analysis subscribe to our free newsletter]. See the full story here →

Wall Street was in for some choppy trading sessions this week, as investors shifted their attention to the Fed and its massive stimulus measures. Earlier this week, markets took their cue from comments made by three Fed officials. Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago President Charles Evans had stated that while the central bank’s stimulus measures have made good progress, officials need “more time” before they can make any substantial monetary policy changes.
